A primary school headmaster was beaten to death over land dispute at Atgharia upazila in Pabna on Saturday morning. Police detained a person for interrogation. The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali, 45, of Moheshpur village and headmaster at Fulbaria Primary School at Ekdanta union of the upazila.
He was also the general secretary of Atgharia Upazila Primary Teachers’ Association. Ashraf Ali was having dispute with his neighbor Afzal Hossain for a long time over a piece of land. As a sequel, Ashraf and Afzal locked into an altercation around 7:00 am. At one stage, Afzal started beating Ashraf indiscriminately with a stick, leaving him dead on the spot, said Hossain, son of the victim.
Officer-in-Charge of Atgharia Police Station Rakibul Islam confirmed the matter. He said that on information, police recovered the body and sent to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. Police detained Rina Khatun, wife neighbor Afzal Hossain, for interrogation, said the OC.
