Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his mausoleum at Tungipara in Gopalganj on Friday.
After placing the wreath at the grave, the newly elected mayor along with others stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the architect of Bangladesh's independence.
President of Sylhet city Awami League Masuk Uddin Ahmed, Sylhet District Awami League President Alhaj Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Khan, Mayor of Tungipara Municipality Sheikh Tozammel Haque Tutul, London Chhatra League General Secretary Sajeeb Bhuiyan and a large number of Awami League leaders and activists were present.
A special doa was offered seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15, 1975 carnage as well as martyrs of the Bangladesh War of Liberation. A special prayer was also offered for longevity of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members. Later, SCC Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury signed the visitors’ book there.
