The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday dismissed the 'leave to appeal' against dismissal of writ regarding the validity of taking oath and holding office of 290 members of parliament elected in the 11th National Parliament election.
A seven-member Appellate Division full bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order upholding the oath taking and holding office of the 290 members of the parliament as valid, on TUESDAY morning.
On January 20, 2019, Supreme Court lawyer Taherul Islam filed the writ claiming that the elected MPs' for the 11th Parliament took oath before the 10th Parliament concluded.
On 18 February 2019, the High Court dismissed the writ directly after holding a hearing. The petitioner filed a leave to appeal against this order the same year.
