The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has upheld a High Court (HC) order that asked the police to identify the plaintiffs of 49 fake cases filed by Rajarbagh Pir syndicate against Ekramul Ahsan Kanchan, a resident of Shantinagar area in the capital.

A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued the order following a hearing of a review petition.

Advocate Joynul Abedin and Advocate Emdadul Haque Bashir moved for Ekramul Ahsan Kanchan in the court, while Advocate M K Rahman represented another side.

Earlier, the High Court had ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police to enquire into 49 criminal cases filed against the businessman in order to find the informants and complainants. The CID had also been asked to submit the enquiry report to the HC in 60 days.

A total of 49 criminal cases were filed with different police stations and courts across the country against Kanchan on various charges including murder, rape, torture of women, extortion and human trafficking in the last 11 years.

Rajarbag Darbar Shareef and its Pir Dillur Rahman are reportedly involved in filing of the false cases for a small piece of land owned by Kanchan.

Earlier, an HC bench had asked the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police to investigate whether the Rajarbag Darbar Shareef and its Pir Dillur Rahman have any connection with militancy.

The HC bench had also asked the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) to inquire into the assets of Dillur Rahman and his disciples. Both the CTTC and ACC had been asked to submit reports in 60 working days.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court later upheld the High Court directive.

Rajarbagh Darbar Sharif, a centre of Sufism and mystic beliefs situated in the capital’s Shantibag area, is allegedly involved in misdeeds and unholy activities in the name of religion as well as Islam.

The Rajarbagh Darbar Sharif runs centering the Rajarbagh Pir named Dillur Rahman. He has a number of ardent disciples (murid). Many of the disciples as well as the Rajarbagh Pir syndicate allegedly harass many people to materialise their ill-motive. They are allegedly involved in case manipulation and torture on innocent people.
