Savar centre still overflowing with vaccination seekers

People's crowds still overflowing at Covid vaccination centers like last two days, and the scenario is now worsening as seen after visiting the Institute of Health Management vaccine center under the Savar Upazila health complex on Wednesday.

After talking to several vaccine seekers, it was learned that many vaccine seekers were injured as police and volunteers performing at the center charged batons at one stage to tackle the situation, besides, many of them were getting sick following the crowds overflowing. 

Dr. Sayemul Huda, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer said people started to rush the vaccine center since the country’s health directorate announced that they were targeting to inoculate one crore of the first Covid vaccine dose to people on February 26, and then they focused on inoculating second and booster Covid doses; the situation is now worsening gradually and multiple times more people gathered at the vaccination center today than the last two days.

It was learned that usually, Savar Upazila health division used to inoculates Covid vaccine 4 to 5 thousand people earlier in a day, which now touched 18 thousand yesterday.

People who came to the center to get jabbed said many of them rushed to the center even in the early morning on Wednesday and were still uncertain whether they could get vaccinated as some of them had to returned last day despite waiting a long time.

Huda said they have enough vaccine doses and are able to inoculate all vaccine seekers, but they need the cooperation of people as their work interrupting following indiscipline. He urged all to keep calm and cooperate with them.

Earlier on Sunday, a total of 12 thousand people get vaccinated from this center and 18 thousand people on Tuesday, which amount is now suspected to rise on Wednesday as per the information of Savar Upazila Health Complex.
