Child abuse of madrasa going students is rising alarmingly in the country. Every now and then we see that madrasa students are beaten and harassed by the so-called teachers.

According to a report published in this newspaper on Thursday, an ill-fated 8-year old madrasa student on his birthday was brutally beaten by his teacher. This incident of being physically harassed is not anything new in this country.

Except for some elite madrasas, students of maximum number of madrasas are often harassed physically and sexually as well. These inhuman activities in the name of teaching at the madrasas need to stop immediately.

Government should start strict monitoring

and implement some proper guidelines

and laws to establish new madrasas

Government should start strict monitoring and implement some proper guidelines and laws to establish new madrasas. Most of the time we see that the incidents of child abuse seem to only get attention when they result in the victims’ death or when it gets viral in the media outlets.

The accused in child abuse cases are also getting bail easily and the families of the victims are threatened to keep them silent. The accused often use their influence over the law enforcement agencies and this only makes things worse for the victims’ family. This ultimately sets the road for the accused to get released and the victim’s families never seeing the light of justice at the end.

Though the government highlights the significance of zero tolerance policy for violence against children, however, sufficient measures have not been taken by the government to implement it. It is high time now to reform our laws regarding violence against children, to prevent culprits from taking advantage of the loopholes that are present in our legal system.
