In a scene reminiscent of a fairytale, a helicopter landed on a village field, and out stepped a groom clad in a red sherwani. Recently, the event took place in Kaya village, under Simanto Union of Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.

Saudi expatriate Shakib (23), originally from Garapota village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah, flew in by helicopter to marry his beloved — fulfilling his father’s long-cherished dream and surprising his bride. Both Shakib and his father, Billal Khan, live in Saudi Arabia, where they run a family business.

Shakib took off from his home village and landed just six minutes later at the Jibannagar High School field. He then travelled by private car to the bride’s home.

Crowds gathered immediately as the helicopter landed, with excited villagers taking selfies and videos. The groom was warmly welcomed with flowers.

The bride, Asma Khatun (19), daughter of Ibrahim Khalil, is a madrasa student from Kaya village. Their marriage was formalised five months ago, and the helicopter arrival was a gift from the groom’s family, fulfilling a father’s dream.
