Sarankhola admin locks sluice gates to protect Boro paddy

The upazila administration of Sarankhola has locked the 6 sluice gates adjacent to Bhola river to protect Boro paddy cultivation from saline water at Sarankhola in Bagerhat district.

Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Md Mostafa Mashiul Alam said that the upazila administration has locked 6 sluice gates adjacent to Bhola river in Dhansagar union on Thursday afternoon to protect Boro paddy from saline water. This step has been taken to prevent saline water from entering the crop lands in the area. Newly arrived Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Azgar Ali, Upazila Agriculture Officer Wasim Uddin, Dhansagar UP Chairman Md Moinul Islam Tipu, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Md Hasibul Islam Moni, a group of police and farmers of the area were present. It may be mentioned that about 500 farmers in Dhansagar Union have been officially provided seed paddy and fertilizer for Boro paddy cultivation in the current season. Boro paddy has been brought under cultivation in one thousand five hundred bighas of land in that union.
