Santhia UNO stops child marriage

Abdul Halim, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Santhia in Pabna, stopped marriage of of two 8th grade girls at Kashinathpur union under the upazila on Monday night. Imam of the masjid who conducted the marriage abled to escape. It is known that being tipped off, Santhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer conducted a drive to prevent child marriage in different places of Kashinathpur union on Monday.

On that night, Fazar Ali’s daughter, an 8th grade meritorious student, of Kalagachi village under the union, was prepared to marry off. When UNO Abdul Halim arrived the spot, he ponders the marriage and takes a pledge not to marry until she becomes matured. Similarly, the UNO raided on Harun or Rashid’s home at Mehdinagar village and stopped his daughter's marriage. Being escaped, the Imam could not be arrested.

At that time, Sub-assistant engineer Nasir Uddin, UP member Shahidul Islam and marriage registrar Ismail Hossain Kiran were also present there. The UNO said that, child marriage is a social disease. The nation must be protected from this disease. Strict action has been taken against child marriage, drugs and gambling. The drive will be continued against these social curse.
