Published : 01 Mar 2022 07:59 PM

Approximately 20 km of the local highway road from Madhapur to Bera in Pabna district has become impassable due to potholes. Every day, passenger buses, freight trucks, hundreds of CNG vehicles and freight vehicles ply on this road in eight districts of North Bengal including Pabna, Dhaka, Bogura and Sirajganj.

Passengers are suffering due to the dilapidated condition of the road in the area. Trucks loaded with goods have to move slowly on this road. This is a waste of time, fuel and on the other hand vehicles become damaged soon. The locals demanded to repair the road and make it suitable for transportation.

The Madhapur-Bera local highway from Nandanpur to Santhia via Bera has become full with potholes. Due to the short distance of 18 km road from Pabna to Dhaka and North Bengal, vehicles do not travel from Madhpur to Kashinathpur instead they use Madhapur-Santhia and CNDB road. This saves both oil and time. On the other hand, as Bera CNDB Chatur Bazaar is a large cattle market, warehouse of various raw materials including fish and vegetables, wholesalers use three wheeler vehicles on this road every day.

Locals of the area said that they are suffering in the dilapidated condition of this road. Every day, one or the other accident is happening due to potholes on the road.

Govinda Haldar, a fishmonger in Santhia Bazar, said, “ Because of the bad condition of the road even if you buy fresh fish, it becomes soft when Santhia comes. As a result, we have to sell the fish at a loss.

Bus driver Manjil said, “We use this road to save time and oil as it is an easy and short road to Khulna via Pabna. But the condition of the road is very problematic. Sometimes we have to fear the accident.”

Upazila Chairman Abdullah Al Mahmoud Delwar admitted the suffering on the road and said, "As far as I know a tender has been passed to build a bigger road. I hope the work will be done very soon.”

Executive Engineer of Pabna Roads and Highways Department Abul Mansur Ahmed said, “Work on Madhapur Bera Road will be started soon. The process is in progress.”
