Santhia-Bera link road in dilapidated state

The road from Santhia to Bara Upazila in Pabna has now turned into a broken road due to lack of maintenance for a long time. It is creating a serious risk in the movement of vehicles. Due to the mud on the road, it has become difficult to travel on foot. However, residents of 15 villages including Hengua, Shashodia, Afra, Shamukjani, Punduria, Bargram, Dattapara, Natunpara of Karamja Union have to travel through this road every day.

Hundreds of students of Afra Ideal Academy, Punduria High School, Primary School, KG School and Madrasa are having to travel through various this dilapidated road. This road is now an obstacle for the transport of agricultural products of these agricultural villages. As the transport of farmers' produce through this road has become risky, it has become very difficult to take the produce to Bwalmari Hat, Chatur Haat, Kashinathpur Haat for sale.

Due to the formation of potholes in several places of the 8-9 km road, the local people are facing serious difficulties in movement. At present cargo vans have to be pushed from place to place. As the Kakeshwari River is on the side of the road, sometimes vans and motorcycles fall into the river due to accidents.

Residents also said that in the past, primary school children were injured when a van overturned while they were standing on the side of the road.

Abu Hanif Khan, the head teacher of Punduria High School, said that since this road has not been renovated for a long time, the students have to travel to school at risk every day as the bricks and mortar have come out. Nazrul Islam, head teacher of Afra Ideal Academy, said that the students are also suffering due to the non-renovation of this road.

The people of the area complain that they have been traveling in misery for years, but the public representatives are not doing anything about it. Karamja Union Chairman Hochen Ali Bagchi said that he is embarrassed about the road. Even after repeatedly informing the concerned department, the road is not being renovated. 

He requested the intervention of the local government engineering department to repair this road quickly.

LGED Santhia Upazila Engineer Fazlul Haque said that they have reported this matter to the construction authority.
