On the eve of World Diabetes Day 2021, for the first time in Bangladesh, Sanofi Bangladesh took the initiative to felicitate top young researchers in the field of diabetes.
This platform not only recognizes young researchers for their hard work and diligence but also encourages the aspiring researchers to work more and more in the challenging field of diabetes.
Eminent physician Professor A K Azad Khan, National Professor and President of Diabetes Association of Bangladesh graced the scientific seminar ‘Diabetes in Bangladesh: Current Situation and Future Direction’ as the Chief Guest.
Professor Md Faruque Pathan, Professor of Endocrinology, BIRDEM General Hospital chaired the program where Professor Zafar A. Latif, Former Director General, BIRDEM General Hospital was present as the Special Guest and Dr. Shahjada Selim, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrinology, BSMMU presented the keynote.
Professor Md Faruque Pathan said, “Bangladesh is ranked as the 10th most diabetic prone country in the world – and the real scenario is graver than this. If we do not act now, the situation will go beyond control. Integrated action plan and easy availability of all diabetic cares including medications with affordable price is required to overcome the situation.”
Chief Guest of the event National Professor A K Azad Khan said, “Research requires subtle analytical ability, critical thinking and clear brain. It is great that students are getting interested to do research. He further said that awareness among the people is increasing but they are not taking necessary steps to make it effective.
