Sangram editor held for publishing provoking news

Islamic extremist-supported newspaper Daily Sangram’s Editor Abul Asad was detained on Friday in Dhaka for allegedly making unlawful and provocative news in favour of Abdul Quader Molla who was executed for crimes against humanity. Terming Quader Mollah as Shaheed (Martyred), the newspaper ran a story on him on Friday.

As soon as the news was published people from all walks life imbued with the spirit of Liberation War became furious and stormed the Sangram office on Friday Activists of Muktijoddha Mancha, a platform of freedom fighters, entered the Sangram office at Moghbazar on Thursday afternoon and ransacked the furniture of the office.

They also set fire to some copies of the newspaper. Aminul Islam, President of Muktijoddha Mancha told journalists that the newspaper defamed the martyred intellectuals by calling Quader Molla as Shaheed (Martyred) “By running such a story the newspaper also attacked the country’s sovereignty. We are demanding of the government to shut down the newspaper immediately,” he said He added Daily Sangram’s Editor Abul Asad has been handed over to the police.
