State Minister for Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said that Sandwip will be turned into an economic zone within next 5 to 10 years as it has already been brought under the National Power Grid, reports BSS.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps to expedite the economic progress of Sandwip,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the Golden Jubilee programme of East Sandwip Bohumukhi High School in Sandwip, said a press release here today.
Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, MP, Upazila Chairman Master Shajahan BA, Convener of Golden Jubilee Committee Khairul Mostafa, Principal Saifuddin Mahmud Kajol addressed the programme with School Management Committee President Rezzakul Haider Monju in the chair.
The state minister said a Jetty is being constructed at the Guptosara Ghat in Sandwip to ensure smooth travelling of passengers. Besides, Bauria and Bashbaria Ghat will be renovated, he added. Khalid said 10 light houses will be installed at the Sandwip Channel for the convenience of the Sandwip dwellers who travel at night.
