Sampriti Bangladesh, a citizens’ platform promoting secularism, thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending his greetings on the occasion of year-long Mujib Barsho celebrations, marking the 100th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The friendly and cooperative relations between Bangladesh and India under the ‘able and visionary’ leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her counterpart Modi would set unique example in the world, Convener Pijush Bandyopadhyay and Member Secretary Prof Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil said in a statement on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Modi, in a video message, called Bangabandhu one of the greatest personalities of the last century saying “he was a champion of justice, equality and dignity”. The Indian premier said, “Life of Bangabandhu gives a great message to the world of 21st Century.

“Next year will be 50 years of Bangladesh’s liberation and year 2022 will be the 75th anniversary of India’s independence,” he added.

“I am confident that both these milestones will not only take development of India and Bangladesh to a new height, but will also strengthen the bond of friendship between the two countries,” Modi said.
