Though the number of Dengue patients is decreasing gradually in Rajshahi, the city people are not yet completely safe from being attacked by Dengue since sporadic rain is still continuing throughout the district and many areas of the city are still 'hot beds' for breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, informed by officials of Health Department in Rajshahi on Monday.

Meanwhile, Health department staff have once again started to collect samples of larvae of Aedes mosquitoes and their larvae from various places of the city to ensure the presence of dengue virus in those samples.

Dr Gopendranath Acharya, Director of the Department of Health, Rajshahi,  in this connection informed, samples of Aedes mosquito and larvae are being collected from various areas of the city and surroundings  from Sunday.  After collection, those samples will be tested in hatcheries whether Aedes mosquitoes near the dengue virus and whether those are being reproduced freshly there.

Earlier from August 2 to 6 officials of health department collected samples of larvae of Aedes mosquitoes from 100 spots of the city including from surrounding areas of Rajshahi Medical Hospital, Rajshahi Railway station, Bus stations and police stations and found presence of larvae of Aedes in 14 spots of the city.

Meanwhile, though the number of Dengue patients has been decreased in Rajshahi, the apprehension of the spread of Dengue in the city has not yet been waned.  The reproduction season of Aedes mosquito will continue till the middle of September that is why city dwellers have been advised to remain alert from contacting dengue from mosquito bites. Health department has also advised to keep under-construction building sites, old buildings, garages and stagnant water sources clean so that no mosquito can breed there.

RMCH sources informed, the number of Dengue patients in Rajshahi seems to decrease. A total of 14 Dengue patients were admitted with the disease at the hospital during last 24-hour of them eight were released.  Earlier on  Sunday-4,  on Saturday-11 and on Friday 10 patients were admitted at the hospital. The source further informed, from July 17, patients being attacked with Dengue started to be admitted at RMCH and till now 542 dengue patients were treated at the hospital and 523 were released. One patient is now under treatment at the ICU of RMCH, informed Dr. Saiful Ferdous, Deputy Director of RMCH.
