Members of Jatiya Shramik Federation and Natore Sugar Mills Sugarcane Farmers' Association jointly organised a human chain and took out a procession demanding payment of arrear salaries of staff of the mills, non-privatisation of the mills and increase of the price of sugarcane at Kanaikhali Bus Stand area of Natore on 11 am on Wednesday.
Presided over by Abdul Karim, President of Natore Sugar Mills Sugarcane farmers' Association, the human chain programme was addressed, among others, by Ibrahim Khalil, President of Uttarbanga Chinikol Sugarcane Farmers' Andolon, Mijanur Rahman Mijan, President of Jatiya Shramik Federation, Natore Sugar Mills unit, Babu Sukumar Roy, General Secretary of UCSFA and labour leader Saiful Islam.
The speakers at the programme placed five-point demands including immediate payment of arrear salaries of the sugar mills' labourers, employees and officials, non-privatisation of the mills and increase of price of sugar cane. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Natore.
