Gazi Group Chattogram skipper Mohammad Mithun is leading a team for the first time in a big event. Not only is he captaining, but his team has performed really well on field. In the group stage of Bangabandhu T20 Cup, Mithun’s team have secured the top four by winning 7 out of their 8 matches.

It seemed that Chattogram would easily get a ticket to the final. But in the Qualifier 1, they suffered a setback against Mahmudullah Riyad-led Gemcon Khulna. However, Chattogram made amends in the Qualifier 2 and defeated Beximco Dhaka to secure final berth.

Now, ahead of Friday’s final against Khulna, Chattogram’s coach Mohammad Salauddin praised Mithun’s captaincy and cool head. He said, “I believe Mithun is a very cool headed captain and that is why he can make very good decisions during the match.”

Talking about Mithun's captaincy, Salauddin said, “Some people think that Mithun did not lead a team in domestic cricket. I think it’s a misconception that he hasn’t captained before. MIthun, however, has captained in many domestic matches. He also led a team like Abahani.”

Salauddin added, “My players have also realised that Mithun is a very calm captain. All in all he, has all the materials to do captaincy. If he plays good cricket, then he deserves to be the captain.”

Meawhile, Salahuddin kept Khulna ahead in the crucial final because of their vast experience.

“I think in T20 games, experience always matters. Both of the teams are bolstered with experienced players but Khulna has more experience and so they are ahead of us,” Salahuddin said.

That doesn’t mean Salahuddin will give up the hopes of winning the trophy.

“During the players’ draft, we tried to rope in experienced and T20 experts for every position. I think our middle order is strong and they will deliver when it matters most,” he added.
