Egypt's Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya and Comoros with an ankle injury, ESPN writes. Egypt released a statement on their official Twitter account on Tuesday confirming Salah will miss the games, along with a picture of the striker with a protective boot on his left ankle.

Sources had told ESPN FC that Liverpool were concerned over their star's injury after he another knock to it in the 3-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday which took his side eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.. The club wanted the 27-year-old to remain on Merseyside and undertake a scan on the problem, which has been carefully managed by Liverpool, but was aggravated after a fair but firm challenge from Fernandinho at Anfield. Salah missed the 1-1 draw at Manchester United following October's FIFA break as he nursed the issue and the European champions are loath to lose him as the busiest period of the season approaches. Salah has been unable to complete 90 minutes in the league since hurting his ankle against Leicester, being substituted against Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp shed light on the nagging element of the injury earlier this month, saying: "I think it is more really annoying -- for him, not me -- the fact that it always has a bit of fluid in, and he has to deal with it, we get it out and it comes back, and stuff like that." Salah has scored six goals for Liverpool this season and was on target in the win over City.
