Saifuddin Ahmed, an associate professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Dhaka University (DU), has been appointed as the new proctor of the university. The university's registrar office issued a notification confirming his appointment on Wednesday.

This appointment comes after the resignation of the previous proctorial team on August 8, following the fall of the Hasina government. Since then, the positions of proctor and assistant proctors had remained vacant.

Saifuddin Ahmed has a long career in academia and administration. Before joining DU, he taught at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust), North-South University (NSU), and the University of Asia Pacific (UAP). He also served as an assistant proctor at Sust. His academic work includes four books and 17 journal articles, reflecting his strong background in research and leadership.

In his first statement as proctor, Prof Saifuddin stressed the need for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a supportive environment for students. “We are committed to creating a student-friendly university environment and look forward to the support of all university stakeholders. Together, we will work towards this goal,” he told UNB.

The university community has welcomed his appointment, hoping for positive changes in campus safety and student affairs. Prof Saifuddin's diverse experience and academic contributions are seen as valuable assets that will help guide DU in fostering a better environment for its students.

Saifuddin Ahmed’s appointment as the new proctor is expected to bring stability and a fresh perspective to the proctorial team at Dhaka University. Students and staff are optimistic about the future under his leadership, looking forward to a more collaborative and student-focused campus environment.
