SAFF Congress to be held today

The Annual General Meeeeting of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) to take place today in Kathmandu, Nepal. 

The congress will bring a change in the constitution of SAFF when the constitution was of SAFF was changed a few months ago in Colombo, Sri Lanka.  

Purushottom Cattel, new general secretary of SAFF informed that there is an instruction in the constitution that not to have more than three terms in the executive committee of SAFE, there is a proposal to leave out it in the upcoming AGM, because recently AFC also amended it in their constitution. 

There was an age barrier in the SAFF constitution, which stated that no one could be more than 70 years old at the time of the election. The age quota was lifted at the SAFF Congress was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on April 4. According to the amendment of the constitution and new law, the current SAF president, Kazi Salahuddin, who is 70 years old, there is no embargo in his participation in the next election.

Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin, recent past president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), was elected as the SAFF President in 2009, since then he is the chair, as he was also elected for next three times election.

Meanwhile, last month, Article 31, Section 5 of Chapter 3 of the Constitution was eliminated. Changes are coming to Section 4 of the same Article, after one month. The new SAFF General Secretary Purushottom explained about the two separate Congresses instead of holding the two (Congress) together, as he said that there is a systematic process in changing the constitution.

In addition to amending the constitution, the SAFE Congress also has a number of other subjects to address, including filling a vacant position on the executive committee, budgeting, and more issues.

 Two executive members of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), Manjurul Karim and Tipu Sultan, left for Nepal on Friday to join the SAFF Congress.
