A Safe Vegetable Sales Center has been inaugurated at Khaserhat Bazar, Subarnachar, Noakhali under the theme 'Eat safe vegetables, ensure good health'. At the same time, a center has been set up to sell safe fish.
Subarnachar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Chaiti Sarbavidya inaugurated the program as the chief guest on Tuesday. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer has assured all kinds of cooperation to Sagarika Samaj Unnayan Sangstha to continue the activities of Safe Food Sales Center.
Under the management of Sagarika Samaj Unnayan Sangstha, in collaboration with the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department and administration and with the financial and technical support of the Integrated Agriculture Unit, Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation, this programme was launched.
Saiful Islam Sumon, executive director of Sagarika, said that at present, people are suffering from various problems including skin diseases by eating vegetables produced using high levels of harmful chemical pesticides and fertilizers. As a result, various diseases are appearing in liver, kidneys, blood and fat.
The use of pesticides in vegetables is not prohibited, waiting for a certain period of time reduces its toxic effects. Then it is much safer to eat those vegetables. He called for more use of organic manure, green manure, farm manure in vegetable cultivation and purchase of products from non-toxic safe vegetable and fish outlets.
Later, a market connection workshop was held at the office of Sagarika Samaj Unnayan Sangstha under the integrated agriculture unit of the fisheries sector and an awareness workshop was held under the livestock sector of the integrated agriculture unit. Various activities of Sagarika were discussed in the workshop. Later, the elected chairmen of different unions of the upazila were given crest.
