SAARC Snooker Championship 2019 kicks off

Sheikh Kamal Memorial 1st SAARC Snooker Championship-2019, jointly organized by Dhaka Club and Bangladesh Billiards and Snooker Federation (BBSF), began in the capital on Monday.

Teams from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are participating in the tournament sponsored by Beximco Group. Impact PR is the media partner of the tournament.

Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, Honorable Foreign Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, inaugurated the international tournament as chief guest on the premises of Dhaka Club at 5pm on Sunday. Bangladesh has earned the right to field four players as the host nation and two players each from four other participating countries will compete in the tournament. So, a total of 12 players divided into four groups are playing in the international sporting event. The top two players from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals. 

The champion of the tournament would receive a cash prize of USD 2,500 and the runner-up will get USD 1,500, while the two losing semifinalists will earn USD 500 each. In addition, the player who will do the maximum breaks (50+) will get USD 500 as prize.

Concluding ceremony of the tournament will be held on September 6. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the ceremony as the chief guest while her private investment consultant Salman F Rahman will be present.
