First Gentleman of Singapore Mohammed Abdullah Alhabshee sent gift items to Rohingya people shifted to Bhasanchar, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said.
The minister said the First Gentleman of Singapore informed him of the gift while talking to him over phone on Friday.
He was addressing a views-exchange meeting titled ‘Development Progress’ as the special guest at Hotel Star Pacific in Sylhet.
Abdul Momen said, “The Singapore government had extended help to Rohingyas shifted to Bhasanchar. Some 3,000 Rohingyas will go to Bhasanchar today [Friday] and 1 lakh will be taken there in phases. Rohingyas will be taken to Bhasanchar for their welfare.”
At the meeting, the minister said all the riverbanks of Sylhet would be as beautiful as other countries. “The people of Sylhet are facilitating the activities in this regard.”
He said if there is a ring road, the traffic congestion in the city will be eased.
Referring to the unprecedented progress across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dr Momen said a beautiful Independence Tower would be constructed in Sylhet.
He further said poverty rate in the country has reduced with the improvement in all social indicators. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest. Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury presided over it.
Among others, Awami League’s Sylhet metropolitan unit President freedom fighter Masuk Uddin Ahmed and Senior Secretary to the Local Government Division Helal Uddin Ahmed also spoke.
Earlier, the foreign minister and LGRD minister jointly inaugurated the Sylhet Zila Parishad Super Market.
