S Asians hold 3 key positions in UK

With Indian-origin Rishi Sunak taking over as the British Prime Minister, three key positions in the kingdom have gone to politicians with South Asian ancestral origins.

The other two are British Bangladeshi Mayor of Tower Hamlets Mohammad Lutfur Rahman and Pakistan-origin Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Rishi Sunak assumed office as the British Prime Minister and Leader of the Con-servative Party on October 25. He was Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022 and Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. He has been the member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015.

Sadiq Aman Khan has been serving as Mayor of London since 2016. He was previously Member of Parliament for Tooting from 2005 until 2016. He is a member of the Labour Party.

Mohammad Lutfur Rahman has been serving as the directly elected Mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for the Aspire party since 2022. He previ-ously held the post from 2010 to 2015.
