Saudi Arabia has shown its interest to invest in the jute sector of Bangladesh by reopening the closed jute mills of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).

Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Bangladesh Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan made the disclosure while paying a courtesy call to Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi at his secretariat office in the capital on Wednesday. Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Abdul Mannan was present at the meeting.

Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan said, “We sincerely believe Bangladesh is our true friend. So, Saudi Arabia is interested in expanding and developing trade and commerce in the textile and jute sectors of Bangladesh.”

During the discussion, Minister for Textiles and Jute Golam Dastagir Ghazi said, “We also believe that Saudi Arabia is a friendly country of Bangladesh.”

“Saudi Arabia will invest more in expanding its trade in textiles and jute,” he expressed his hope.

The Minister assured the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia that Bangladesh produces the best quality jute in the world and now high quality and attractive multi-purpose jute products are being produced from this jute. Jute products are completely environment-friendly. Demand of jute products has grown significantly in Saudi Arabia as a result of recent environmental awareness.

“Versatile jute products are being exported to different countries of the world. Saudi Arabia is one of the leading export-oriented countries for Bangladesh. Bangladesh wants to export more versatile jute products to Saudi Arabia in future,” the minister added.

Apart from the friendly relations between the two friendly countries, various issues of mutual interest including Bangladesh’s economic progress were discussed during the meeting.
