Russian girls outplayed Bangladesh youth women’s team as the host suffered a 3-0 defeat in their first-ever game against a European side in the SAFF under-17 football championship on Wednesday in Dhaka.

Captain Elena Golik was the star of the match as she netted twice with the first one at the fifth minute of the match, and assisted the other goal in the spectacular 90-minute show in which the Russian side dominated in every department with their fitness and skills.

Bangladesh was indomitable in the South Asian region in any age group of women football. They thrashed Bhutan by 8-1 in their first match.

But with Russia, Bangladeshi girls lag behind in every aspect from their physical fitness to skills. Russia is also well ahead of Bangladesh in the Fifa rankings.

Bangladesh was forced to play defensive as Russian women continued to attack from the beginning of the match at the Birshreshtha Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Kamalapur.

The first-half ended 2-0.

The host could once beat the defense of the strong opponent, but could not make any score.

Bangladesh side was closer to level the margin on the 42nd minute but a superb effort of Sauravi Akanda Prity was brilliantly saved by Russian keeper Uliana Obukhova.

It was a quick counter attack move down the left with Sagorika providing a cross to advancing Prity, who received the ball well and dribbled past her marker inside the area and took a placing shot but the tall Russian keeper just stopped with a right hand drive.

Then, Captain Golik, the prolific forward, doubled the margin before the whistle of the first-half.

Besides the 42nd minutes’ move, Bangladesh girls also produced some good counter attacks but were halted before going to go at the opponents’ danger area.

However, Russian girls, who were working hard to increase the margin, added the third one through Anastasia Karataeva in the 62nd minute with the assistance of Captain Golik.
