Russel’s Viper or Chandrabora, one of the most venomous snakes in the world, is now being breed naturally and roaming throughout the Barind region of the greater Rajshahi districts.

Specially, during the season of reaping of paddy, the menace of this snake increased in the districts. By being attracted with the insects at the paddy fields, those snakes made their nests inside the rat-holes of the crop field.

Matiur Rahman, owner of Monamina Agro Farm of village Jamtola under Amnura of Chapainawabganj recently caught a large Russel's Viper from the paddy field, put it into a sac and tied it on a branch of a mango tree beside his field.

In a FB post, he wrote- Russel's Viper is the name of another panic amid Coronavirus panic. He kept the snake alive in a sac on the branch of the tree so that any Snake Researcher would be able to get the snake for his work.

Matiur Rahman said, he excels in catching snakes just with a stick or with a branch of a tree. Watching the viper at the paddy field, farmers called him over mobile phone and he caught the snake and inserted it inside a sac.

He would like to hand over the snake to any Herpetologist or Snake researcher.

He said, he had also caught the viper earlier and donated that to a club named' Snake Rescue and Study' in Paba upazila of Rajshahi. A young snake researcher Borhan Biswas established the club. He also runs a snake farm in Paba. He said, failing to contact Borhan over the mobile phone, he posted the news of catching the snake in the FB.
