‘Ruling AL only party active in their due duties to the nation’

Except for the ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL), all other political parties literally remain inactive in their due duties to the nation.

Although the ruling AL party had suffered from some intra-party feuds in the grass root levels for a while earlier, now it has been able to overcome the crisis and strengthened under the strong leadership of AL president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In this circumstance, BNP and other political parties are losing their stance in the political field for their lack of unity in the central level as well as due to their inactivity.

Critiques studying politics said that to strengthen the party's position in politics, the Awami League has included different popular leaders from various left leaning parties in the government. They have been included in the alliance and also in the cabinet. Even, the present opposition in the parliament, Jatiya Party has also been included in the alliance and in the cabinet.

As a result, they said, the organisational capacities of the left leaning parties, which had become the part of the government, have greatly been reduced. The opposition in the parliament, Jatiya Party, has also lost its own position in the electoral field.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Nationalist Party or BNP, which earlier had included Jamat-e-Islami, a party known for its anti-liberation sentiment, has also lost its credibility and acceptability to the new generations for its stance against the Independence or Liberation of Bangladesh. Not only that, many of the senior leaders of BNP have formed separate political parties splitting its (BNP) political strength.

AFM BahauddinNasim, a Joint Secretary of AL, said that the Awami League is well organised party now for the strong leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the perfect successor of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said, “From top to bottom, all the leaders and activists of the party respect and honour the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. She has earned such respect for her honesty, dedication, talent, courage, hard work and her sacrificing mentality for the welfare of the country and its people.” He continued saying that there is no other leader in Bangladesh like Sheikh Hasina who could perform better for Bangladesh.

It should be mentioned that there are a total of 41 political parties registered by the Election Commission (EC). All of them have their own electoral symbols. Although, all those parties have the rights to take part in the election with their own symbols, they did not do so in last many national elections and local government elections.

Experts said in many elections, all the parties of the 14-party alliance led by the AL have taken part in the elections with the symbol of ‘Boat’, the electoral symbol of Awami League. On the other hand, all the parties under the 20-party alliance led by BNP and Jamaat had taken part in the elections with the symbol of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’.

As a result, experts said, participations in the elections with the symbols of other parties have confused the leaders and activists of the parties from both the alliances. Therefore, in some recent elections, some of the Islamist parties have achieved better results than even the opposition-Jatiya Party.

The Gono Forum led by Dr Kamal Hossain, BikalpaDhara led by former president and BNP’s former senior leader AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, JatiyaSomajTantrik Dal led by ASM Abdur Rob, KrishokShramikJanata League led by Quader Siddique and some other parties had taken part in the 11th Parliament elections by forming a separate alliance named JatiyaOikya Front. However, it had to face a disaster in the electoral field.

On the other hand, the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) led by Muzahuidul Islam Selim is considered to be the main platform for people supporting left leaning party. But it could not be able to make any strong position neither in the central level nor in the grass root level. Like CPB, the JSD led by HasanulHuqInu, Workers’ Party, Biplobi Workers’ Party, GonosonghatiAndolon and other parties are also not being able to create any strong position in the field.

It means that none of the political party or alliance or forum could become successful against the Awami League in the politics.

The BNP is now suffering from leadership crisis. Its political strength is now declining for internal division. Some of the BNP leaders consider former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as their leader while others consider her elder son Tariq Rahman, who is now absconding and staying in London, as their leader.
