RU to observe Teachers’ Day on Feb 18

Authorities of Rajshahi University (RU) and various professional organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Teachers’ Day on February 18 on the university campus in a befitting manner. 

On this day during the mass-upsurge movement of 1969, the-then Proctor of RU and Reader of the Department of Chemistry Dr Syed Muhammad Shamsuzzoha was shot to death by Pakistani Army while he was performing his duty. The day is observed as Teachers' Day in Rajshahi University.

The programmes of the day include hoisting of black-flag at dawn, placing floral wreaths to pay tributes at the grave of martyred Dr Zoha and at the foot of memorial plaque of martyred Zoha at 7:30am, a discussion in memory of Dr Zoha at Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Senate Bhaban of RU at 10:00am.

Meanwhile, various organisations and departments including the Department of Chemistry, RU Teachers Association, residential dormitories of RU, Rajshahi University schools, Sheikh Russel Model School of RU, RU Officers Association, RU Employees Union and Transport Technical Employees Association will also observe the day with various programmes. 

After the Zohr prayer, recitation from the holy Quran and special Munajat will be offered at the Central Juma Mosque of RU. Special prayers will also be offered at Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall of the RU at 4:30pm.

RU Teachers Association will also organise an online discussion meeting in memory of Dr. Zoha at 7:00pm. 

Moreover, an essay competition will be held at the Shaheed Sukhoranjan Samaddar Students-Teachers Cultural Centre in memory of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha.

The Martyred Memorial Museum of RU will remain open for the visitors from 8:00am to 5:00pm on this day.
