RU student remanded in rape case

A Rajshahi court placed a student of Rajshahi University on remand for two-days on Monday in a case allegedly of rape of a female student. Selim Reza, a judge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court, granted the  remand of Mahfuzur Rahman Sarad, a RU Economics department’s second year student.  

SM Masud Pervej, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station told The Bangladesh Post that Sarad took the female to his mess forcibly at Kazla Sakopara area of the city on 24 January evening. The victim student is a second year student of RU international relation department and friend to him. 

Sarad, an activist of RU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League forcibly raped the female student at his mess while his five friends named Plabon Talukdar, Rafsan, Joy, Jibon, and Bishal filmed it. Sarad also threatened the female student to make the video viral on social media and demanded Tk 50,000 if they are not paid.

Later, on 27 January, the female student, went to Matihar police station along with her parents and filed a rape case against four named, including Sarad, and two more unnamed persons. Following the case filing, Mahfuzur Rahman Sarad, Plabon Talukdar, Jibon, Joy and Rafsan were arrested by the police and recovered the recorded film.

OC SM Masud Pervej said that Jibon confessed to the police that following Sarad’s direction, they filmed the scene.
