From The administration building to Kazla, from female halls to male halls, all the academic building areas, wherever you go at the Rajshahi University (RU) campus, your eyes will be stuck on the huge collection of the banners and posters sealed with the trees and walls.

The 26th council of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Rajshahi University (RU) unit, the student wing of the ruling party Awami League was scheduled to be held on November 12, this year. The aspirants put up these banners and posters all over the campus for their campaign. Students complain that the aesthetic beauty of the campus is being destroyed as the entire campus is covered in these political campaigns.

The university administration has not taken any initiative to remove these banners, festoons and posters even after a week of suspension of the council. However, the administration says that these banner posters will be removed soon after talking to the BCL leaders.

Students alleged that these banners placed at every corner of the campus are not only less-attractive but also ruining the beauty of the campus. Most of the banners are nailed to the trees. It is cruel to nail the trees that give us cool shade and valuable oxygen as well. Students are also questioning the role of the university administration in maintaining the beauty of the university.

Juthi Akhtar, a fresher student of the Sociology department said, “I had a positive impression about the beauty of the Rajshahi University even before I entered the campus. An exuberance always worked with Paris Road.”

“But since coming to the university, I have been seeing big banners all over the campus, which is quite less impressive,” Juthi alleged.

Alamgir Hossain, a student of Physics department said, “Even the main gate of the university was not spared from their political campaign.”

“Putting up banners, and posters are ruining the external beauty of the university, individualism, and above all the environment of the university. We want our campus to be a banner-poster-free educational institution and blessed with natural beauty,” stated Alamgir.

While asked, Bangladesh Chhatra League Rajshahi University unit general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu said, "I will talk to the aspirants and tell them to take those things down soon."

In this regard, university proctor Prof Ashabul Haque said, “It is not allowed to put posters or leaflets on the walls except in certain places on the campus. Aspirants of BCL leaders have put up banners and posters for their council.”

“We will talk to them and remove the banners very soon,” proctor added.
