RU buzzes with migratory birds’ chirping

Thousands of migratory birds have started to arrive in various water-bodies of Rajshahi University campus. According to sources, innumerous migratory birds were now seen flying and sitting on the branches of the trees beside the water bodies and swimming in water with clamourous sound all day long on the campus.   A large number of people from in and outside the campus are seen to visit the areas to watch those birds.

According to sources, from September month every year, winter started to clamp with snow-fall in are northern Siberia, Mongolia, Xinjiang of China and other countries while Himalayan regions of India and Nepal are also shrouded with snow. Being failed to bear the bitter cold, thousands of migratory birds arrived in the comparatively warm region like various water bodies of Bangladesh during the winter. Now, most of the birds arrived from Himalayan region of India and Nepal while from the end of December to January, migratory birds from Siberian region will start arriving. Two types of migratory birds arrived here, one type used to take rest by sitting on the branches of trees or on the land while the other type, mostly belonged to duck species, stays, swims and even takes rest in water. Most of the bird species arrived at RU campus belonged to Sarali by name. The other species belong: large Sarali, Langa Duck, Khunte Duck, Bhuti Duck and Jhuti Duck. Hira Akhter Preeti, a student of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism of RU informed, she used to come out from her room every morning to watch the heavenly beauty of the birds and the campus of RU. She added, her mind is refreshed with the unique natural scenes and the migratory birds of the campus.  

Yeasim Palash, a residential student of Shahid Shamsuzzoha Hall of RU informed, the residents of the hall are awakened early in the morning with the clamorous sounds of the migratory birds. He added, he along with many of his hall mates used to watch the heavenly beauty of the clamouring birds just by opening windows of their rooms, so close the water bodies containing migratory birds of the campus are! Orinthologist Professor Aminuzzaman Md. Saleh Reza of the department of Zoology of RU informed, RU campus is an ideal abode for all sort of birds including the migratory birds. No one used to disturb the birds. Those birds feel safe to live in the birds colony of the campus. Moreover, there are enough food and breeding places here. Migratory birds used to start arriving at the campus from October and stays till March. Mainly the birds like Black Manik Jore, White Manik Jore and Sarali arrive at the campus every year. he further added. RU administration was assisting in various ways to stay and breed the birds in a safe environment. He further informed, for the first time the Water-peacocks were seen to breed at RU campus this year.  Ananda Kumar Saha, Pro-Vice Chancellor of RU informed, varieties of birds arrive in the campus round the year. Due to having sufficient food and facilities for breeding, those birds used to prefer to arrive at the campus trees and water bodies. RU Administration was always active to ensure safe environment for birds.
