Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami league, staged demonstration at Rajshahi University protesting assault on one of their female activists at Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa dormitory by the leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Sangstha.
They gathered in front of the female dormitory and started demonstration at midnight on Wednesday.
The BCL leaders alleged that the leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Sangstha assaulted the female activist in a pre-planned way.
On Wednesday night, some leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Sangstha asked the junior students who are residents of the television room to go back in the dormitory room as they could not watch the television programme comfortably. At one stage, the two groups locked into an altercation as a junior student introduced her as a BCL activist.
Bithika Banik, provost of the dormitory, said that a misunderstanding took place over a trifling matter that has been settled later.
Prof Lutfar Rahman, RU proctor, said “We already have settled the issue. Proper step would be taken immediately to remove seat crisis of the dormitory.”
