RU BCL manages residential halls, not authority

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, have been occupying the seat allocations of male residential halls at Rajshahi University without permission of the university authority. Giving condition to join the party, they have been allocating seats in RU all halls among legal and illegal students on the basis of their own liking.

Students instead of not going to the hall authority, has managed the party’s leaders and activists. Even, the allotted students have not got seats after following legal way. The authority remains silent seeing this situation taking not any steps. Visiting all male dormitories recently, it was seen that the BCL leaders and activists remain prepared always to occupy general students’ legal seats. They have made political block in all of dormitories in an illegal way. Some party leaders are selling seats among the students taking a huge amount of Money.

However, No hall authorities are taking actions till now to solve that problems. Students are suffering a lot as such problems are increasing day by day. In RU Sher-e Bangla Fazlul Haque hall, it was alleged that RU BCL deputy-publication affairs secretary Babor has taken Tk 3,000 from a student for giving him a seat. A call recording was also leaked after happening this. But Babor denied the allegation adding that he was not involved in this incident.

Besides, BCL leaders and activists have also occupied seats in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Madar Bux, Nawab Abdul Latif, Shaheed Suhrawardy and Habibur Rahman halls. They distribute seats among their party activists illegally making political block. In a recent visit at Habibur Rahman hall, it was found that Shadik, a private university student is residing the hall at room no. 405 illegally. According to the rules, a student must be a university student to get a seat. Shadik was a cousin of the hall BCL leader Minhaj. He residing the hall for a long. Minhaj claimed that he notified about the Shadik’s matter to the hall provost Jahidul Islam. But the provost said that he did not know anything in this regard.

Wishing anonymity, provost of a hall said The Bangladesh Post that “the party leaders harassing the allotted and general students for a long in different ways. Their illegal possession in halls could not be stopped.” However, visiting those halls, it was seen that the party leaders enlist the students’ address who has finished their study already for possessing the seats.

On the condition of anonymity, some senior BCL leaders said remaining no hall committee and expired committee are responsible for such of incidents.
