RpMP chief seeks city bus service to fight traffic congestion

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Nure Alam Mina on Friday said the initiative would be taken to launch a city bus service as an alternative to auto-rickshaw to control traffic congestion in the metropolis.

"The initiative will be taken in coordination with the city corporation and other related government departments to control traffic jams and resolve other existing problems in the road and traffic systems of Rangpur city," he said. The RpMP Chief said this at a views-sharing meeting on traffic management affairs with transport owners and workers, civil society members and Roads and Highways Department (RHD) officials on Central Bus Terminal premises as the chief guest. The Traffic Division of RpMP organized the event with the assistance of local transport owners' and workers' organizations with the President of Rangpur District Transport Owners' Association AKM Mozammel Haque in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police (City Special Branch) of RpMP Md. Abu Bakar Siddique and its DC (Traffic) Md. Menhazul Alam were present as special guests.

 DC (Traffic) of RpMP Menhazul Alam delivered a welcome speech narrating the road and traffic management system in the metropolis.

Later, Presidents, Vice-presidents and General Secretaries of leaders of Rangpur District Transport Owners' and District Transport Workers' Associations and RHD officials discussed the traffic jam issues in the city and forwarded suggestions.

 In his speech, the RpMP Chief remembered the greatest Bengali ever, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib and all martyrs of August 15, 1975, four national leaders and sacrifices of all in the War of Liberation of Bangladesh with deep sorrow and respect.

He respectfully remembered the martyred policemen who resisted the Pakistani occupation army in the first hour of independence.

The RpMP expressed his opinion about the existing problems in the road and traffic system of Rangpur city and future plans to resolve those.

He sought the cooperation of all concerned to maintain order in the traffic system of the city.

 Besides, he announced the formation of a community policing committee involving transport owners and workers to facilitate police and transport owners-workers to work as complements to each other.
