Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday said investigation in the case against Prothom Alo Senior Reporter Rozina Islam is going on in its own course and fairly.
According to the sources in DB, investigators are verifying the seized papers and other paper evidences at the beginning of the investigation. As part of the further investigation, the DB officials are taking steps to send the mobile phone set of Rozina for conducting forensic test.
DB also started collecting CCTV footage of the CCTV cameras of the secretariat.
According to the DB officials, they are investigating to verify the allegation of stealing official secret documents against the female journalist.
We are trying to make a clear picture and conduct a correct investigation. If necessary, we shall interrogate more people with the permission of the court, even who were not accused in the case, an official who is involved in the investigation said.
HM Azimul Haque, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Ramna Division) said, “Our investigation has been started in proper and fair way. We shall submit our report after completing our investigation in a free, fair and neural way.”
Responding to a question on how many days will be required to submit the probe report in the case, he said, it depends on the investigation. At present, I cannot exactly tell you the time.”
Meanwhile, leaders of different journalist associations demanded unconditional release of Rozina Islam.
They will also meet three ministers on Sunday to discuss the issue.
The journalist leaders were briefing the media after a closed-door meeting held at the National Press Club in the city.
Rezwanul Haque Raja, president of Broadcast Journalists Centre (BJC), said on Sunday, a delegation of journalists will meet Law Minister Anisul Huq, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud and Roads, Transports and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
Our internal meeting has been adjourned until Sunday, as they will declare the next move after monitoring the court order on Rozina's bail plea, he added.
The journalist leaders also expressed hope that Rozina would be released before the said meetings.
Demanding Rozina's unconditional release, they warned that they would announce a tougher programme, if their demand is not met.
Kuddus Afrad, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) said, “We need a proper journalist protection act for safety.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), said the journalist members of all organisations will remain united.
He said, a coordinated delegation will meet the ministers for the best interests of the country's journalists.
Farida Yasmin, president of the National Press Club, Mashiur Rahman Khan, general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity, Shakil Ahmed, secretary of the BJC, Saiful Alam, former president of National Press Club, Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, former secretary general of BFUJ, and Zakaria Kajal, former joint secretary general of BFUJ, among other journalist leaders, were present at the conference.
