Now it is the time for a move to store solar power to face the future challenges of the power and energy sector of the country.
“It is time for storage of electricity generated from Solar System. We have to find out a sustainable solution and encourage our people about it, said Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr. Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury.
He made the remarks while addressing a panel discussion titled 'Future of Rooftop Solar Power in Bangladesh' through online on Saturday.
Energy & Power magazine organized the virtual talks in collaboration with M2K Technology and Trading as part of a series to make people aware about the development and challenges of the power and energy sector of the country.
Tawfiq-E-Elahi said, “we need electricity for 24 hours. However, solar system cannot generate electricity in 24 hours. Without storage of battery, we can use electricity from solar system only in daylight. Now we have to think about it. It is the time to move to store of solar power.”
"Currently we are surplus in electricity. We don't need 40 to 50 percent of the capacity during off-peak hours in the day. If we get more electricity from solar system at that time, then we are not getting any benefit. So, I would request you to look at how solar power can be supplied 24 hours a day from now on,” he added.
Referring to the Prime Minister's statement, the adviser said, "The Prime Minister said when you leave your house, you will turn off the lights. This is our sense of responsibility. I will not use more than I need. We need to change our habits.”
Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) presented keynote paper. Leading experts in the sector, economists and journalists were also attended of the discussion.
Among others Mohammad Alauddin, Chairman of Sustainable & Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Professor Dr. Saiful Huque, Director, Institute of Energy, University of Dhaka, Al Mudabbir Bin Anam, Program Coordinator (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program) of GIZ, Tanjil Chowdhury, Managing Director of East Coast Group & Chairman of Prime Bank, Mollah M Amzad Hossain, editor of Power and Energy magazine also spoke at the seminar.
