Keeping with the festive tradition, many of the world's leading football players took time to post festive greetings to their fans via their respective social media platforms, report agencies.

Despite the covid-19 pandemic casting a shadow on Christmas festivities across the world, many leading football players still remained faithful with the tradition of sending season's greetings to their fans via social media.

The Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo opted for a traditional 'family together in front of the Christmas tree' greeting this year with a simple message for his more than 90 million Twitter followers.

Leo Messi has no Twitter profile with Instagram being his social media platform of preference for interacting with his fans. His wife Antonella, however is an ardent poster of family events and this year offered a post of the family decked out in what appears to be red velvet suits in front of the Christmas tree.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without a Sergio Ramos festive greeting. The Real Madrid club captain generated notoriety in 2012 with his greetings in English and each year now the Camas born player is on hand to wish his fans well over the holiday period. Ramos, once again appears alone in the greeting with an uplifting message in English and Spanish.

The Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. has opted for a two-in-one here with a Christmas greeting mixed in with a advertising post from Diesel fragrances, one of the player's many sponsors dedicated to his 50 plus million followers.
