Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, AFM Khalid Hossain, said that the role of Islamic universities in promoting ethics and values is undeniable.
The adviser came up with the assertion while delivering the inaugural speech at a two-day international conference titled ‘Islamic Universities and Contemporary Challenges’ held on Monday at the International Islamic University auditorium in Kumira area of Chattogram. This conference is being organized in collaboration with the League of Islamic Universities based in Cairo.
He said the International Islamic University has various exchange programs with international universities. Students have the opportunity to study here and pursue higher degrees at different universities in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia. The university offers a pleasant environment for achieving higher education.
To the Islamic scholars, the adviser said we are facing many problems and challenges ahead of us. We must confront contemporary and future challenges with confidence and determination.
He said we cannot afford to sit idly by. Vast opportunities are calling us. The students who graduate from such Islamic universities will be the leaders of tomorrow’s world. That’s why we must produce graduates from Islamic universities. To fulfill the aspirations and demands of the people, Islamic university students are essential. Here, we will not only discuss the problems but also seek solutions.
Professor Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Mosleh, Secretary General of the International Islamic Relief Organization of Saudi Arabia, attended the conference as the chief guest.
Professor Dr Abdullah said we founded this university with great dreams, envisioning it as a premier institution that would compete with other universities in the region and achieve its desired goals. Today, we can see some realization of that dream, though there is still a long way to go. In his speech, he highlighted the glory and tradition of Islam and urged everyone to follow the Qur'an and Sunnah properly.
With Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Mohammad Ali Azadir presiding over the conference, Emeritus Professor and former Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University Dr AKM Azharul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University Dr Mohammad Shamsul Alam, President of Jordan University of Jordan Professor Dr Nathir Mufleh Mohammad Obeidat, along with Professor Dr Md Nazmul Haq Nadvi also spoke at the conference.
