Imams are playing an admirable role in creating public awareness to curb social curses like drug abuse, child marriage, dowry, drug abuse, militancy and terrorism for establishing a peaceful society.

High officials expressed the view at a divisional level conference for the trained Imams held at the conference room of the Divisional Office of Islamic Foundation in the city on Sunday afternoon.

Rangpur divisional office of Islamic Foundation organized the event with its Divisional Director Md. Abul Kalam in the chair.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan attended the conference as the chief guest.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Devdas Bhattacharyya as a special guest addressed the event.

Some 150 trained Imams from all eight districts under Rangpur division attended the conference moderated by Assistant Director of Islamic Foundation at its Rangpur Divisional office Md. Mosaddekul Alam.

The participating Imams expressed firm determination of making people aware of the negative impacts and severe consequences of child marriage, dowry, other superstitions, drug abuse, terrorism and militancy to eliminate these curses from the society.

The speakers said Imams are laudably preaching the real meaning of Islam thwarting misinterpretation of the religion of peace and preventing militancy, extremism and terrorism to establish sustainable peace.

The chief guest said Islam is the religion of peace and the Imams could play the most vital role in preaching real spirit of Islam to prevent militancy and terrorism alongside eradicating social curses for establishing sustainable peace in the society.
