The Rohingya delegation returned to the camp after visiting Hatia Bhasanchar in Noakhali. Returning to Cox's Bazar on Tuesday (September 6) evening, they were sent to their respective camps after undergoing a medical check-up at an army-supervised transit camp in Ukhia.
Last Saturday, a 40-member delegation, including two Rohingya women members from the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar, visited the Bhasanchar Asylum Project.
After visiting Bhasanchar, members of the Rohingya delegation said that since their arrival last Saturday, they have visited various structures including houses, mosques and cyclone shelters built for Rohingyas in Bhasanchar.
They liked everything fascinating there. Seeing the arrangements made by the government for the Rohingyas to live in Bhasanchar, it seems that the Rohingyas will be able to live here in great comfort.
Like other Rohingyas, they had misconceptions about Bhasanchar before going there. But seeing everything with their own eyes now the misconception is removed. They will tell the Rohingyas about the camp of Bhasanchar that they have seen with their own eyes. According to them, the Rohingyas in the camp will be interested to go to Bhasanchar.
Cox's Bazar Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shamsuddoza said that the delegation included Rohingyas from different camps including women members. They were taken there to see with their own eyes the Rohingyas' negative perception of Bhasanchar. At the end of the inspection they returned. If they persuade other Rohingyas to return to their respective camps, they may also express interest for going to Bhasanchar.
Incidentally, more than 11 lakh Rohingyas who fled Myanmar were housed in Ukhia and Teknaf hills in Cox's Bazar. The government has temporarily taken initiatives to relocate about one lakh Rohingyas living in 34 camps in Ukhia of Cix’s Bazar.
In order to protect 40 sq km area from tides and tidal surges, 13 km long embankment and infrastructure of 120 cluster villages suitable for one lakh Rohingyas have been constructed. The government has already rescued more than three and a half hundred Rohingyas from the sea and brought them to Bhasanchar. However, due to the misconceptions of the Rohingyas about Bhasanchar, they showed reluctance to go there at different times.
The government took a 40-member delegation of Rohingyas to visit Bhasanchar last Saturday to change their negative perception. At the end of the visit they reached the camp.
