A Rohingya youth was shot to death by miscreants at a Rohingya camp at Ukhia upazila in Cox's Bazar early on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Tanjimarakhola Rohingya refugee camp in Palongkhali union of the upazila at about 1:00 am.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jabed, 20, son of Mohammad Islam of Block D/4 of Tanjimarakhola camp. Two others were injured in the incident.

Commander of Cox’s Bazar 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq confirmed the matter.

He said that some 10 to 12 armed members, were crossing the road in Block D/8 on Monday night. Some people blocked their way and barred them from roaming the area around the Rohingya camp at night. The two sides clashed at one stage.

At that time, Mohammad Jabed and two others received bullet injuries. They were later rescued and taken to the refugee camp health centre, where the on-duty doctor declared Jabed dead.

Tariqul Islam also said the body was recovered and sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy. A case was filed in this connection. Police were trying to arrest the people involved in the incident.
