Rohingya youth killed as wall collapses in Ukhiya Camp

A 22-year-old Rohingya youth was killed and a child was injured when a mud wall collapsed in a refugee camp at Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar early Monday.

The incident took place at Block D-3 East of Camp No. 2 in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ayas, son of Abul Fayez, a resident of the camp. The injured was Kamal Uddin,12, son of Jamal Uddin, of the same camp in the upazila. Confirming the matter, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Kamrul Islam Chowdhury said that Ayas and Kamal were rescued with the help of fellow camp residents and taken to the BDRCS-PHC hospital.

Ayas was later sent toCox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital as his health condition deteriorated.

Ayas died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The UNO further said that both individuals had recently arrived from Myanmar and had not yet received their biometric registration cards.
