Rohingya Yaba trader killed in ‘gunfight’

A Rohingya yaba trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members at Ghumdhum border area in Naikhyangchhari of Bandarban at around 11 pm on Thursday night.

The BGB members recovered 80,000 yaba, a home-made weapon and two rounds of ammunition at the time. 

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, son of Syed Alam of Kutupalang Lambasia Rohingya Camp in Ukhia.

Cox's Bazar 34 BGB captain Lt. Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said that the yaba traders opened fire on the patrolling BGB members while entering Bangladesh with yaba through Baishphandi area of Ghumdhum. 

The yaba traders fled when the BGB opened fire in self-defense. 

A search of the spot turned up the body of a man, 60,000 yaba, a homemade weapon and two rounds of ammunition. His identity was confirmed later.

The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said the BGB Official.
