Police on Wednesday recovered the bodies of a Rohingya man and his son two days after they went missing. They went to catch fish in Naf River on Monday and went missing.
The deceased were identified as, Nur Ullah, 37, son of late Salamat Ullah, and Ruhul Amin, 13, son of deceased Nur Ullah, residents of Block B-7 of Jadimura No. 27 Rohingya camp in Teknaf Upazila.
Inspector Tapan Kumar Bishwas, In-Charge of Teknaf River Police Station, said the floating bodies were recovered from the Damdamia Keari ship Ghat area of Naf River in Hnila union of Teknaf Upazila.
Quoting the locals and relatives of the deceased, Inspector Tapan Kumar Bishwas said Nur Ullah and his son Ruhul Amin used to go to catch fish in Naf River regularly. They used to catch fish with fishing nets along the bank of Naf River. The father and son went to catch fish on Monday morning. At one point, Ruhul Amin was swept away by the current of the river. When the father tried to save his son, he was swept away by the current as well and they both went missing.
Inspector Tapan said when the father and son did not return to their house on that day, their relatives started searching for them in various places. However, they remained untraced. Later, their relatives verbally informed the matter to river police on Tuesday morning.
The Inspector said locals informed the police when they saw the bodies floating at the Damdamia Keari Ghat of Naf River in Teknaf Upazila on Wednesday evening. Later, police with the help of the locals rescued the bodies of the duo.
The bodies were handed over to their relatives, he added.
