A suspected robber was beaten to death by locals while allegedly preparing for a robbery in Araihazar, Narayanganj. The incident took place around 2:30am on Wednesday in the Dori Bishnandi (Kathaltola) area of Bishnandi Union.
The deceased, Nabi Hossain (35), was the son of Lokman alias Loikka Hossain of Ucchatpura village. At least four people, including a housewife, were injured in the attack. The injured have been identified as Kulsum, Naim, Abul and Faruk of the same village.
According to police and local sources, a gang of 15 to 20 armed robbers entered the house of one Ilyas with the intention of looting. When the residents raised the alarm, the robbers attacked them, leaving Kulsum seriously injured and three others wounded. Hearing the commotion, neighbours alerted others via the mosque loudspeaker and rushed to the scene. They caught one of the robbers and beat him to death, while the rest fled. The injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
Saifuddin, Investigating Officer at Araihazar Police Station, said the same gang had allegedly robbed two other houses earlier that night. Police recovered the body and are sending it to Narayanganj morgue for post-mortem. An investigation is under way.
