Robber killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria in the early hours on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Saddam Hossain, 26, son of Kangal Mia, hailed from Beparipara area of Kalikaccha union under Sarail upazila of the Brahmanbaria district.

Saddam, a member of a dacoit gang was accused in a number of cases filed with different police stations, claimed police.

Besides, three members of a robbery gang were held. Officer-in-Charge of Ashuganj Police Station Zabed Mahmud confirmed the matter. He said a police team of Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station along with Detective Branch of police (DB) raided Jatrapur Chaporbari area after midnight on Tuesday.

Sensing presence of police, the robbers opened fire targeting the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered 'a gunfight'. Saddam died on the spot.

The arrestee are Akash Mia, 27, hailed from Sadar upazila, Hrid Mia, 25, hailed from Nathpara area of Sarail upazila, Ashraful Islam, 25, hailed from Uchaliapara area of the district.

Apart from a pistol, a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a bike were seized from the spot, he added.
