Roads empty for lockdown, office-goers in distress

The weeklong ‘lockdown’ to deal with Chattogram city’s fast-growing corona virus infection began a on Monday. However, even during the lockdown, the main roads of the city are a bit empty, but many people have been seen hanging out in the alleys of the neighborhood.  Besides, there is an abundance of buyers and sellers in the markets as before.

 Four main entrances of the city are Oxygen, New Bridge, Kaptai Road Head and City Gate area.  It is seen that at the four entrances, the police are conducting search by setting up check posts.  There are also Bahaddarhat, 2 No. Gate, GEC, Agrabad, EPZ, New Market, Andarkilla, Chawkbazar, Patharghata, Bakalia, Muradpur, Alangkar, Barapul, Agrabad Badamtali junction where police installed check posts.

 Meanwhile, visiting the roads, it can be seen that even though public transport is not running, there are motorbikes, rickshaws and private cars roaming without any restrictions.  Industrial workers suffered the most in the morning as public transport was closed. Many were seen going to work on foot or in rickshaws.  However, passengers also complained that the fare was quite high.

 Shops and markets were also closed.  However, emergency and daily necessities shops in the city remained open as usual.

Police has been spreading awareness  in different areas since morning.  Police are also asking those who have other product stores to keep them closed after evening.
