Road repairs in Katiadi slow, people’s suffering mounts

About 1 km of road from Katiadi bus stand in Kishoreganj to Zila Parishad Market (Katiadi Adampur road) has not been completed in five months. Due to long running work, the drivers of this road are suffering a lot. The road was closed due to construction work, causing traffic jam.

It is learned that in the financial year 2019-20, the Upazila Engineering Department has taken up a project to repair about 1 km of road from Katiadi bus stand to Adampur road adjacent to the district council. 

One crore 28 lakh taka was allocated for road repairs there. The contract was awarded to M/S. SR Uddin Traders by tender. About 1 km of road repairs include 400 meters of RCC welding and the remaining 600 meters of carpeting. 

But the vaccination company could not complete the work in the last five months. For this, the drivers are constantly suffering and suffering.

Locals complain that the contractors are working very slowly. That is why the drivers of this road have suffered a lot. Nabi Hossain, Uttam Kumar said, thousands of people pass along  this road every day. But the contractors are neglecting the work of this important road.

Truck driver Ahid Mia said, if work goes on one side of the road, one has to go on the other side. The vehicle got stuck due to the movement of vehicles on one road. 

This cause long traffic jams. Contractor Masud Mia said the renovation work was stopped for a long time due to corona infection. That's what happened. We're trying to get things done quickly.

Katiadi Upazila Engineer Shah Alam said the road is being paved. However, 60 percent of the project has already been completed. However, he hoped that the work would be completed by July.
